Abstract
A number of wave modes existing in acoustics (bulk, surface, interface, plate, wedge, etc.) manifest a great variety of propagation characteristics (attenuation, velocity, dispersion, localisation, etc.) and thus offer a wide range of opportunities for acoustic NDE and material characterisation. One of the main difficulties on this way is concerned with the lack of simple, efficient and robust techniques for generation and detection of these waves in non-piezoelectric materials. To be applied in NDE such techniques are supposed to be remote and flexible to allow for scanning and acoustic imaging of defects.
