The Fable of the International Provider
Isabel is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Development at a new university, located in a regional but non-metropolitan centre. The institution had been formed in the 1980s through the amalgamation of the community and technical colleges, both of which served the largely rural- or tourism-oriented population in the region. University status was granted in recognition of the need for a university presence: the region being one of rapid population growth, principally because of its development as a tourist and holiday destination. Initially formed as a college of an established university, it had become an autonomous institution eight years ago.
