Abstract
Muscles are responsible for movements of the body and organs, and are composed of elongated cells called fibres. Movements result from contraction of these fibres, between which are found connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves. Three types of muscle are recognised:
-
Striped muscle (= striated, skeletal or voluntary muscle)
-
Cardiac muscle
-
Smooth muscle (= involuntary muscle)
