Systems analysis is a structured process of analysing the ways in which things are done and designing and implementing new and better methods. This process has, of course, been practised for many years, but it is only in recent years that the procedures of analysis have been developed to a sufficient degree to merit their description as a distinct discipline or area of study. Modern industry has a number of analytical disciplines which it can use to improve its efficiency. These include: work study, organisation-and-methods study and operational research as well as systems analysis.
