Design of Braced Tower Supporting Water Tank

  • Chapter
Steel Frame Design Examples

Abstract

An open (i.e. unsheeted) tower structure is required to support a prefabricated steel water-storage tank. The water tank is 6 m square by 2ยท5 m deep and the underside of the tank is to be 18 m above ground level. Safe ground pressure may be taken as 210 kN/m2 and the structure must be capable of resisting a wind pressure of 950 N/m2. Grade 43 steel is to be used.
