Aesthetic and Ergonomic Considerations

  • Chapter
Mechanical Engineering Design

Abstract

The maelstrom of events in the world of trade is forcing manufacturers to give increasing consideration to the quality of their products. Rising standards of living, better discrimination on the part of the public, the impact of foreign goods on the home market and the intensifying competition within the Common Market are all factors necessitating the manufacture of goods which display originality, functional efficiency, economy of production and good appearance. This last feature has particular importance in that the potential buyer is often first attracted to the article by its shape, colour and proportions. Once interested, he will buy—if the other qualities are present, but his interest must be awakened first.
