Ibrahim Pasha’s initial successor as ‘governor of Arabia’ was Khalil Pasha, the son of Muhammad ‘Ali’s sister. Khalil Pasha died, however, almost before he could start his work. His brother, Ahmad Shukri Yakan Bey, was then appointed to the post and, as Ahmad Pasha, continued in it until 1829, when the viceroy recalled him to Cairo, appointed him minister of war, and made Khurshid Pasha governor of Arabia. The dissipated Ahmad was to spend much of his life in Arabia, for he was re-assigned there from 1833 to 1841.1
