Although the findings of this study are based on the experiences of employers in Reading their implications may be of wider significance. No doubt the extent and intensity of such experiences will vary from place to place, but it is difficult to think that they will be concerned with problems that are different in kind. Furthermore, there is reason to believe that many of our results stem from fundamental attitudes towards criminals and the law, and from the general nature of industrial organisations. In so far as this is true, results stated in terms of these factors may be of general application.
