Abstract
Any form of wave propagation transmits energy in the direction of the wave motion. Electromagnetic radiation thus involves the transmission of energy through space, and we can consider the rate of this transmission as the power of the radiation. Thus when energy enters a tungsten lamp at a rate of 100 watts, 75% of the energy leaves as radiation. We say that there are 100 watts of electrical power entering the lamp, and 75 watts of radiant power or radiant flux leaving the lamp.
