Abstract
Southampton had earned the disapprobation of the Queen; it was unlikely, upon the course he was following, that he would be able to reinstate himself in that easily exhausted treasury of merit. In this year 1598 he was to fall further into disfavour, and that in turn propelled him into still more unsatisfactory courses.
