Design Procedure for Flat Aerostatic Bearings

  • Chapter

Summary

A generalised design procedure has been put forward for the design of single and multipocketed flat aerostatic bearings. This design procedure helps to minimise the air consumption without sacrificing any of the requirements. A set of graphs and nomograms have been proposed to quickly arrive at the correct solution for given data. A flow chart of the algorithm is also included so that for better accuracy a computer can be used. Practical design engineers may find this procedure simple, accurate and quick for the design of aerostatic slideways.
