Summary

The leadscrew is the basis of linear measuring accuracy in any machine tool. With the development of NC machine tools, leadscrews are required to be hardened and ground. At the same time, high level precision is needed.

There are many causes of pitch error in thread grinding. The authors investigated these causes, especially the geometrical and thermal ones of the grinding machine and workpiece screw to be ground. On the basis of the above-mentioned investigations, the authors have developed a new precision thread grinding machine with an NC pitch error compensating system. Using the new machine, leadscrews with high pitch accuracy can be obtained.
