Summary

The increasing usage of computers allowing communication between man and computer accelerated the development of interactive programme systems. This trend was extremely supported by the knowledge that the different tasks of production planning demand various kinds of software and hardware applications. By means of terminals at reasonable prices for graphical and alphanumeric display of information an easy survey and direct control of programmed geometrical problems is available.

The CAPSY-system in its present stage is designed for the application in computer aided planning for manufacturing parts on conventionally and numerically controlled turning machines. The user can easily choose the sequence of his planning steps. For any inquiries each planning module has access to a data base which represents the particular conditions of a factory concerning machines, tools, materials, etc. The application of programmes solving routine tasks and the use of display units for graphical output of settings, tools, tool pathes, and sequences of operations allows the effective automation of the production planning process.
