Abstract

I intend to devote most of my paper to the presentation of some elementary points. For discussion of the concepts, it matters little whether we compare nuclear and fossil energy sources, thermal and fast reactors or two fossil sources. However, for purposes of illustration, I will stick to the comparison of advanced gas-cooled reactors (AGRs) and coal-fired power stations in the first instance, and introduce fast reactors later to deal with their similarities and differences.
