Abstract

This paper discusses the motivation for performing on-line monitoring of the spot-welding process and previously proposed methods for doing this. An experimental system is described which is capable of measuring a number of weld-parameters, and example results obtained from this are given. The extension of the system to allow adaptive control of the spot-welding process and a proposed “weld signature” algorithm are then discussed.
