Abstract
There seems to be a great divide, in time at least, between the anonymous French folk-songs of past ages and the songs of Georges Brassens. But these two aspects of France’s rich tradition of song are actually remarkably close, drawing on the genius of the language and its rhythms to create a unique aspect of French culture.
