Abstract

The historiography of Cuba has evolved to complement the development of the nation and at the same time has contributed to the consolidation of this process. Historians have played a constructive role in the constant search for the roots of Cuban society, as well as the dissemination and teaching of a local history, and have placed particular emphasis on lessons surrounding the fight for independence. They have studied the participation of individuals and of society as a whole in every phase of its development, and brought to light the negative role played by foreign powers.
