Abstract

‘Inhumanity, racism, terror, deprivation of rights and the will to destroy were constitutive elements of National Socialist ideology.’ These words by German musicologist Friedrich Geiger sum up the experience of concentration camp prisoners. Nevertheless, the will to live — and the determination to maintain their own standards — remained with the inmates as long as it was physically possible to survive.
