Abstract

The disaggregated election results collected at the level of single constituencies provide the basis for the analysis of the evolution of the territorial structuring of voting behaviour over 150 years of electoral history in Europe.1 They permit four types of analyses:

  1. 1.

    the analysis of general trends in the territorial structuring of voting behaviour in Europe;

  2. 2.

    the comparison of territorial structures of voting behaviour between countries over time;

  3. 3.

    the comparison of the territorial structures of electoral support between political parties and party families in each country over time;

  4. 4.

    the comparison of territorial structures of electoral support for party families between countries over time.
