In the realm of international relations, integration theory comprises a fairly well-developed body of thought devoted to the process of integration and the interaction of states dealing with economic issues. These “grand theories” are examined here in reference to monetary union; much of the purely descriptive analysis dealt with in many political works is contained in the preceding chapters that deal with historical development.
