Abstract

Programmes and Funds. Social and economic development, aimed at achieving a better life for people everywhere, is a major part of the UN system of organizations. At the forefront of efforts to bring about such progress is the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. In 2006 UNDP helped people in 174 countries and territories, supporting programmes and projects that focus on democratic governance, poverty reduction, crisis prevention and recovery, environment and energy, HIV/AIDS and women’s empowerment.
