Abstract
A structured settlement is an arrangement by which payments that constitute damages on account of personal injury are made over a period of time, possibly for the lifetime of the injured party, rather than as a single lump sum. Wrongful death is included in the meaning of personal injury, in which case compensation is paid to one or more survivors.
