Abstract
Malaysia, one of the second generation Newly Industrializing Countries (NIC), has stood out as one of Asia’s most outstanding success story. Since 1987, the economy has grown at an average of 8.5 per cent each year, making it one of the fastest growing economies in the world. By early 1997, unemployment stood at 2.9 per cent and the poverty rate at 8 per cent. It also became one of the top twenty largest trading nations in the world.
