Public Management in Developing Countries

Abstract

Even if new public management is appropriate for developed countries, at least by comparison with the traditional model of public administration, there is a question as to whether managerialism is applicable in developing countries. It cannot be assumed that a style of management which started in the developed countries of the West would necessarily work in such a different setting. It is possible that new public management is culturally bound in a way that restricts its utility in lesser developed countries when compared to the rich industrialised OECD countries where it started and is most dominant.
