Representation and Reality

Chapter

Abstract

In Chapter 4 we considered four ways of approaching the analysis of representation. In this chapter we investigate what is being represented, which — of course — must be some form of reality. We are not concerned, however, with the ‘real world’ but with the conventions used to re-present the world. We shall consider the conventions of opposing modes of representation, realism (including naturalism) and modernism.
