Abstract

Citizens need work in inclusive communities for three main reasons. First, there is the requirement to convert resources into goods and services sought by the citizens themselves. Second, work which contributes to the generation of income provides citizens with greater degrees of autonomy so that they can participate in collective deliberations without being dependent on others. Third, work is an important means of achieving the value of fulfïlment; without any form of meaningful work, citizens can lose their self-esteem and sense of purpose in life.
