International relations is a rapidly changing discipline and will continue to change, probably rapidly. There are three basic reasons for this. First, the world we live in is changing, perhaps fundamentally. Second, a number of issues, such as gender, which were neglected earlier are now widely recognized as important. Third, we know a little more about international behaviour than we used to do and we have the methods of discovering more. The first two points are not contentious. The last is more so.
