Abstract

I have been asked to address the topic of peacekeeping in Africa from a New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) perspective. By virtue of my most recent experiences, I intend to concentrate on the UN’s peace-keeping operations in Angola.

  1. The first UN Mission in Angola was simply titled UNAVEM (UN Angola Verification Mission). Once UNAVEM II was established, the first mission was then commonly referred to as UNAVEM I.
