Abstract
Chairman: Gentlemen, could I now please call you to order so as to start the second session of our symposium? We have considered the basic features which characterise a group of human beings as a nation. I would like us now to have a look at the social and political contexts in which a nation as an idea and an entity lives and operates. In terms of the groupings below the level of the nation, we have already heard Herr Herder refer to a nation as a family with many branches.
