Seeling the World from a Lesbian and Gay Standpoint

  • Chapter
New Sexual Agendas

Abstract

In the growing field of lesbian and gay studies one of the issues under discussion is whether lesbian and gay studies should be concerned with studying the lives of lesbians and gay men or whether it should take on the potentially more radical task of studying the world from a lesbian and gay standpoint. To express it more politically: some of us see one of the contributions that lesbian and gay studies can make to the movement as being to reveal to the straight world how bizarre it seems from our perspective.
