Abstract

As the Conference convened, veterans of Rhodesia negotiations looked on more in pity than in hope. Few saw much reason to believe that it would not turn into another in the apparently unending series of initiatives that flourished briefly before leading nowhere. The British team had to work out a strategy to prevent that happening.
