Values of the Latvian Road to the Market

  • Chapter
Transition in the Baltic States

Abstract

This chapter is about values and related aspects of managerial behaviour and capabilities in Latvia. Together with the other two Baltic nations, it claims a commitment to a membership to the European Union. All three are in a difficult transition to a market economy. The following analogy illustrates several aspects in this change.

This is a revised version of the remarks originally made on 17 August 1995. The collegial suggestions of Professor Pavel Pelikan of the Industrial Institute of Economics and Social Research in Stockholm are much appreciated.
