Abstract

In October 1990, the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) became part of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). The unification process resulted, more or less, in a complete revision of all statistical measurement procedures used in the former GDR until the beginning of July 1990. This date marked the start of the monetary, economic and social union between the FRG and the GDR.
