Abstract

The European Union’s policy regarding the establishment of the internal market in the electricity and natural gas industries is analysed. Two strands of policies are discussed: the first directly focused on competition; the second on the development of trans-European network infrastructures, insofar as such development is regarded as a necessary condition for competition to be effective in these sectors.
