The Spatial Impact of Japanese Direct Investment in France

  • Bernadette Andréosso

Abstract

It has only been since the late 1980s that France has wholeheartedly promoted itself as an attractive location for foreign direct investment (FDI).2 Foreign-controlled firms now represent 22 per cent of the French workforce, and account for 27 per cent of capital expenditure, 30 per cent of production and 30 per cent of exports.3 In 1993, these firms created 15 425 jobs in 270 different operations.
