Abstract

Care staff are often extremely concerned about the property of their clients. Some residents may have considerable funds in their hands and some may buy expensive equipment.

  • What is the duty of the care staff and other professionals in connection with such items, whether cash or property?

  • What systems should be established to ensure that the property is taken care of appropriately?

  • What is the liability of the care staff if equipment or cash goes missing?

  • How can the care staff protect themselves against charges of fraud or theft or obtaining property by deception?
