Local authorities and the provision of accommodation

Abstract

In this chapter the role of the local authority in the provision of accommodation will be considered. The following issues are covered:

• Power and duty to provide accommodation

• Determination of residency

• Choice of accommodation

• Management of premises and standards of accommodation

• Voluntary organisations and agency arrangements

• Co-operation between the local authority and NHS

• Exclusion of powers to accommodate

• Contractual responsibilities.
