Abstract

When you have finished working through this chapter you should be able to

  • Understand what a spreadsheet is, and how it can be used for financial purposes

  • Be aware that a spreadsheet cell may contain TEXT, a NUMBER, or a FORMULA

  • Set up a worksheet to perform calculations using numbers, formulae, operators and functions

  • Understand the difference between an ABSOLUTE and a relative cell reference

  • Know how to enhance the appearance of a worksheet by changing column widths, selecting appropriate fonts and styles, formatting to an appropriate number of decimal places, inserting extra rows, columns or page breaks

  • Display a worksheet showing the formulae

  • Print out and save a worksheet

  • Construct a spreadsheet template to use repeatedly for different versions of the same procedure

  • Use a spreadsheet to draw a bar chart, a pie CHART, a LINE chart and an XY CHART and to print them out
