Abstract
Because of the dose relationship that exists between the entrepreneur and his business, the success or failure of the business is very much associated with two factors. These are the degree to which the aims of the business correspond with the real aims of the entrepreneur and, secondly to what extent the real aims of the entrepreneur can actually — given his or her psychological make up — be achieved in practice. This chapter will develop these themes and in the course of this will arrive at some general indications of small business success or failure, and in particular why small businesses in the UK are not widely seen — at any rate by the rest of the world — as being outstandingly successful.
