Abstract
Working through this unit should make you competent to sort out your own travel arrangements in French. It will also build up your confidence at tackling written texts where you don’t understand every word. In most cases, when you are reading the kind of texts that appear in this unit – tourist brochures and car‐hire information – you are reading for a purpose : to find out how much things cost and what is included in the price, for example. To do that you don’t necessarily have to understand every bit of the text. What you do need is the will not to be frightened off by the words you don’t know. A very good tip is to read things through three times before you reach for the dictionary. Try it – you will be surprised how much more you understand the third time through.
