Abstract
Before you start, do read the introduction to the course on p. iv. This gives advice on studying alone and explains the study pattern suggested for this course. Breakthrough French will try to develop your ability to follow the gist of spoken French right from the start, so begin by listening to the first group of conversations on the recording without looking at your book. When you have listened to the conversations, you can look at the transcript of them in the book and read the notes explaining the language used. It is a good idea to listen to the conversations several times before you go on to the exercises in the Practice sections.
