Abstract
The last couple of years have seen a public debate around lone parenthood, largely initiated by the UK Government. These discussions have featured much greater attention towards the motives of adults than towards the situation of the children of lone parents. This paper aims to examine this debate from the perspective of a concern for children’s rights, and specifically in relation to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. I will attempt to show that the UN Convention can provide a helpful framework against which to test policy proposals relating to children.
