What are the Key Influences on the Work of Voluntary Agencies?

  • Chapter

Abstract

To review the key influences on the work of voluntary agencies could be an immense task. Organisational theorists have produced a huge literature, analysing a vast array of influences on the objects of their study. The question of how far any organisation is a product of its environment, the resources on which it depends, internal dynamics or national cultures, to choose but a few, has provided ample debate over the years.

‘The time has come,’ the Walrus said, ‘To talk of many things: Of shoes — and ships — and sealing-wax Of cabbages and kings, And why the sea is boiling hot, And whether pigs have wings.’ Lewis Carroll, Alice Through the Looking Glass
