Abstract
Common sense would suggest that we have a set of values, beliefs and attitudes that shape our behaviour. Consequently, psychologists have expended considerable effort in attempts to measure and to change our attitudes in the belief that this would bring about changes in our behaviour. This connection between attitudes and behaviour was challenged as early as 1934 in this classic piece of work by LaPiere.
