Abstract

Do psychotherapies work? That is, do people with psychological problems get better as a result of receiving therapy? And which types of therapy work best? There are so many varieties, such as behavioural (see Lang & Lazovik, 1963, Chapter 11 of this volume), psychodynamic (see Freud, 1909, Chapter 14 of this volume), humanistic (Rogers, 1951), transactional (Berne, 1968), gestalt (Perls, 1969), and that is only a selection.
