Abstract

There seems to be a consensus among Buddhists and Christians that the present interfaith dialogue represents a unique and decisive breakthrough. Protestants talk of the World Council of Churches and its dialogue programmes, which have developed since the 1950s, Roman Catholics emphasise the new attitudes introduced by the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s, and Japanese Buddhists readily respond to the challenges, engaging in exciting encounters with Christians.
