Abstract
The reinsertion of Cuba into the international system is taking place in a period of reorganization and globalization of the international and, particularly, the Inter-American economies. The Cuban economy being one which, traditionally, has been open, this reinsertion will transform the basis of Cuba’s social and political system and national sovereignty. The processes of national independence (1898–1902) and post-revolutionary international realignment (1959–62) constitute historic precedents for the reintegration currently in progress.
Cuban, sociologist, vice-president of the Cuban Studies Institute and social affairs official in the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean since 1971. This chapter expresses the author’s personal analysis and is part of a larger research developed independently of his ECLAC work programme.
