Abstract

All economies are mixed economies. Even in pre-glasnost USSR, the state was not the sole authority on absolutely everything, nor were all economic activities and decisions the responsibility of an over-riding central planning authority. Likewise, even in the USA, private enterprise does not operate totally independently of government, nor are all economic activities and decisions determined entirely by the profit motive. Public relations takes place in the real world and PR practitioners need to understand the particular mix of the economy they work in.

I deeply believe in the value of our kinds of organisations, where the profit motive is not paramount and which are not creatures of the City, but which are democratic, stand on their own two feet and are independent of Government.
