Relationships with partners

Abstract

The need for intimacy and attachment relationships continues into and throughout adult life. This chapter looks at how childhood attachment experiences affect the quality of relationships between adult sexual partners. The need for emotional warmth and support is seen to be very important in most adult social relationships. However, with increases in feelings of personal insecurity we see not only a decrease in mutual support but also a rise both in conflict and dependency between partners.
