Abstract
This chapter endeavours to address seemingly simple interrelated questions: How does the financial sector in the Czech economy, itself undergoing the deep process of transformation, contribute to the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)? Does the flow of funds from financial intermediaries to the SME sector match the priority attached to the promotion of the latter? Are there any major gaps in the financial infrastructure which slow down SME performance? What is and should be the role of government agencies and particularly their money in the process? Do established channels direct government funds to SME borrowers in an efficient way or is there room for recommending better solutions?
